Barrow Driver Caught at Twice the Drink Drive Limit Is Banned
A Barrow driver has been banned from driving after being caught behind the wheel at around twice the legal drink drive limit.
Magistrates heard that the motorist was stopped by police and later provided a breath reading which was significantly above the legal threshold. The court was told the offence raised serious concerns about the risk posed to other road users and pedestrians.
During the hearing, prosecutors outlined the circumstances that led officers to stop the vehicle. After further checks, the driver was arrested and charged with driving with excess alcohol.
The court was told that drink driving remains one of the most serious motoring offences because alcohol can reduce reaction times, impair judgement and increase the chance of a serious collision.
After considering the facts of the case, magistrates imposed a driving ban. The driver was also ordered to pay financial penalties as part of the sentence.
The case serves as another reminder of the consequences of getting behind the wheel after drinking. Police continue to urge motorists to plan ahead and find a safe way home rather than risk lives on the road.
