Banned Driver Caught Drunk On A590 Jailed After Third Offence
A banned driver has been sentenced to jail after being caught drink driving on the A590 in Cumbria despite already being disqualified from the roads.
The incident occurred during a police operation near Haverthwaite, where officers stopped a vehicle after becoming suspicious of the driver's actions. Following checks, police discovered that the motorist was already serving a driving ban as a result of previous offences.
A roadside breath test revealed that the driver was significantly over the legal alcohol limit. Further investigations identified him as 50 year old Scott Faulkner, who had already been convicted of drink driving twice earlier this year. Officers also found that he was driving without valid insurance, adding to the list of offences against him.
Faulkner later appeared before Barrow Magistrates' Court and admitted the charges. The court heard details of his repeated violations of road traffic laws and his decision to ignore an existing driving ban. Taking into account his previous convictions, magistrates concluded that a custodial sentence was necessary and ordered that he be jailed.
Police said the case demonstrates the serious risks posed by drink driving and highlighted the dangers created by repeat offenders who continue to ignore the law. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to tackling dangerous driving across Cumbria and warned that motorists caught breaching driving bans or driving under the influence will face strong enforcement action.
The case serves as a reminder that road safety remains a key priority for police and that those who repeatedly put other road users at risk can expect severe consequences from the courts.
