01 Jun 2026 Armed Police Respond to Ulverston Standoff as Residents Are Evacuated

ULVERSTON, England - Armed police were called to a residential neighbourhood in Ulverston following a serious incident that resulted in a several-hour standoff and the evacuation of local residents.

According to Cumbria Police, officers were dispatched to an address in The Gill area on Sunday afternoon after receiving reports of an alleged assault. Upon arriving at the scene, police became aware that two individuals had reportedly secured themselves inside a property while in possession of a weapon.

Due to the nature of the situation, specialist firearms officers were deployed and a security cordon was established around the area. Residents living close to the property were evacuated as a precaution while officers worked to safely manage the incident.

Police remained at the scene for several hours as negotiations and operational planning continued. Authorities eventually gained entry to the property at approximately 7:35 p.m., bringing the standoff to an end without any reported injuries.

A man and a woman were subsequently arrested and taken into police custody for questioning. Investigators have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances that led to the incident or the specific offences under investigation.

Witnesses described a significant police presence in the area, with emergency vehicles and armed officers stationed around the cordoned-off section of the neighbourhood. The operation attracted attention from local residents, many of whom were temporarily displaced while safety measures remained in place.

Police thanked members of the public for their patience and cooperation throughout the incident. Officers emphasized that public safety remained their primary concern during the response and confirmed that no members of the public were harmed.

The arrests mark the latest in a series of police operations across Cumbria involving specialist units responding to high-risk situations. Authorities have indicated that investigations into the Ulverston incident remain ongoing and that further information may be released as inquiries progress.

Residents have since been allowed to return to their homes after the cordon was lifted and the area was declared safe by officers.
