Furness Autism Expo to highlight local support services in Barrow

14 Apr 2026 Furness Autism Expo to highlight local support services in Barrow

A major autism awareness and support event is set to take place in Barrow this week, aiming to highlight the range of services available for autistic people across South Cumbria.

The Furness Autism Expo will be held on Thursday, April 16, at The Bridge on Portland Walk in Barrow, running from 10am to 5.30pm.

The all-day event will feature more than 20 organisations from both professional services and the voluntary sector, all offering information and guidance on topics including autism support, disability rights in the workplace, employment assistance, education, and outreach programmes.

Attendees will also be able to explore resources for children and young people, sensory regulation tools, and advice aimed at improving daily life for autistic individuals and their families.

Workshops and presentations will be held throughout the day, alongside a conference session covering topics such as autism research, therapeutic practice, and equality and inclusion strategies. Panel discussions will also share lived experiences from autistic people diagnosed in childhood and adulthood, as well as local artists reflecting on their experiences.

Organisers say the event is designed to be inclusive and informative for everyone, including autistic individuals, families, carers, educators, and professionals working in health and social care.

They hope the expo will help visitors better understand autism and connect them with support networks available within the Furness area.
