Friends Complete Gruelling Four Peaks Challenge To Raise Funds For St Mary's Hospice.
A determined group of friends have completed a demanding Four Peaks Challenge in support of St Mary's Hospice, raising vital funds for the South Cumbrian charity while pushing themselves through one of the toughest endurance events in the UK.
The team took on the challenge of climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England, Wales, and Ireland within 48 hours, covering hundreds of miles between locations while tackling more than 4,000 metres of elevation. The four summits included Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, Snowdon, and Carrauntoohil.
The fundraising team, made up of Jake Davies, Brett Wane, Ryan Bowron, and Lewis Bowron, undertook the challenge to support St Mary's Hospice, which provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care for patients and families across South Cumbria.
The challenge required months of preparation and tested the participants' physical and mental endurance. Alongside the demanding climbs, the group faced long overnight journeys, limited rest, and unpredictable weather conditions while striving to complete all four peaks within the allotted time.
Through their fundraising campaign, the friends have received strong backing from local residents, family members, colleagues, and supporters, with donations helping to fund the hospice's essential services. St Mary's Hospice relies heavily on community fundraising, with less than a fifth of its income coming from NHS funding.
The hospice provides free specialist care, emotional support, and practical assistance to people living with life-limiting illnesses, as well as offering support to their families during some of the most difficult times in their lives. Community fundraising events remain a crucial source of income that enables these services to continue.
Supporters praised the team's commitment and determination, describing the Four Peaks Challenge as an inspiring achievement that highlights the generosity of local people raising money for important community causes.
The successful completion of the challenge not only demonstrated remarkable endurance but also raised valuable awareness of the work carried out by St Mary's Hospice.
