Chance To See Tour De France Trophy At Westmorland County Show.
Visitors to the Westmorland County Show will have the chance to see the prestigious Tour de France Grand Départ Trophy when it goes on display during this year’s event.
The trophy will be available to view on Wednesday, September 9 and Thursday, September 10, as part of a special Trophy Tour designed to build excitement ahead of the Tour de France coming to Westmorland and Furness in 2027. The 2027 Tour de France will arrive in the area as part of the Grand Départ, with Stage Two of the men’s race beginning in Keswick on Saturday, July 3, 2027.
Cyclists will travel through some of the region’s most famous landscapes, passing Thirlmere, Grasmere, Rydal Water and Windermere before continuing through the Lyth Valley, Milnthorpe and Beetham on their way towards Lancashire and the stage finish in Liverpool.
The Grand Départ Trophy is presented to the host of the next Tour de France Grand Départ. It will be displayed on a dedicated stand at the Westmorland County Show, alongside information about next year’s race.
Westmorland and Furness Council is working with Tour de France organisers as one of the host authorities for the 2027 event. Its responsibilities include supporting highways arrangements and helping ensure the race can take place safely and successfully.
The council is also working with partners including Cumbria Combined Authority, Cumbria Tourism and local communities to encourage participation and maximise the social, economic and community benefits of the international sporting event.
The Westmorland County Show itself takes place at Lane Farm, Crooklands, near Kendal, on September 9 and 10. The popular agricultural event attracts tens of thousands of visitors and features livestock, food, rural crafts, trade stands and entertainment.
The arrival of the Tour de France trophy is expected to provide visitors with an early glimpse of the excitement building across Cumbria ahead of the 2027 Grand Départ, which is set to bring worldwide attention to the region.
