Sadie Sink: End of Stranger Things ‘like saying goodbye to childhood’
Actress Sadie Sink says filming her final scenes for the last season of Stranger Things felt “like saying goodbye to your childhood”.
Sink, who joined the Netflix series in its second season as Max Mayfield, described completing the fifth and final season as an emotional experience. Speaking to Glamour magazine, she said the end of filming was “horrible” and “so emotional”, comparing it to grieving the end of a major part of her life.
“It felt like we were genuinely mourning something,” she said. “It’s bigger than finishing high school or college because nothing else compares to this experience.”
Sink added that although she remains close with her co-stars, it was difficult to let go of the project that brought them all together. “It was like saying goodbye to your childhood,” she said.
Having joined the cast in 2017 at just 14 years old, Sink explained that growing up on the show came with challenges. She said she often felt unable to express any struggles or pressure in fear of appearing ungrateful.
Reflecting on those years, she said she was well supported by those around her, but still faced the difficulties that come with growing up in the public eye. “Sometimes you feel like you can’t voice any complaints, even though it’s normal to struggle, no matter what job you’re in,” she said.
Sink also spoke about stepping into producing for the first time with the upcoming film adaptation of the play John Proctor Is The Villain. She said the project felt like the right opportunity, explaining that she only wanted to take on a producer role if she could fully commit to learning and contributing meaningfully.
“I don’t want my name on a project just for the sake of it,” she said. “I want to understand the work and do it properly, alongside people who are willing to guide me.”
