Plans Submitted for 110 New Homes on Edge of Barrow-in-Furness

Plans Submitted for 110 New Homes on Edge of Barrow-in-Furness

Emery Planning, acting on behalf of Persimmon Homes, is submitting the proposal for the eight-hectare site, which sits on the town’s eastern fringe. The land is bordered by Dalton Lane to the north, Abbey Road to the south and east, and Furness General Hospital to the west.
According to the developer, the scheme will include 11 “much-needed” affordable homes, alongside public open space and new access routes. The site is currently defined by mature trees, hedgerows and a brick boundary wall along Abbey Road.
While full details such as internal road layouts and pedestrian links will follow at a later stage, Persimmon has already outlined plans for a vehicular access point from Dalton Lane.
A spokesperson for Emery Planning said:
“The scheme has considered the existing constraints and opportunities to ensure effective and efficient use of the land, helping meet unmet demand for family housing and affordable homes in the town and wider area.”
The development itself would occupy around 3.4 hectares, with the remaining 4.55 hectares retained as green infrastructure. This area is expected to include new public open space, ecological improvements and attenuation features.
Although the final housing mix will be determined later, early plans suggest mainly two storey properties, with the potential for 2.5 storey homes at key corner plots. Each home would be built with a private garden and driveway.
The proposed site sits close to other residential expansion, including an Oakmere Homes development under construction to the north. To the east, across Abbey Road, lies the Abbey House Hotel and Gardens.
Developers say they have produced detailed plans for the scheme and are inviting local residents to share their feedback. The consultation allows the community to comment on the outline application and, if approved, help shape the detailed design.
