Lake District’s 1863 Restaurant And Rooms Earns Global Top 20 Spot.
A well-known Lake District restaurant with rooms has gained international recognition after securing a place among Tripadvisor’s global top 20 hidden gem restaurants.
The family-run restaurant was established as 1863 Restaurant with Rooms in 2016, although the building itself has a much longer history. According to the business, the property originally operated as a blacksmith’s forge before later becoming the village post office. It now combines a restaurant with accommodation in the heart of Pooley Bridge.
The restaurant’s recognition comes after years of developing a reputation for seasonal and locally sourced cooking. Its menus include three, five and seven-course options, with dishes designed around the seasons and ingredients from the surrounding area. Head chef Phil Corrie leads the kitchen, with an approach that includes local produce and foraged ingredients.
The business also offers eight en-suite bedrooms, providing visitors with accommodation close to Ullswater and the wider Lake District. The rooms are designed around a simple, comfortable style, allowing guests to stay in the village after dining at the restaurant.
The latest international recognition adds to an already significant list of awards for the business. 1863 currently holds three AA Rosettes, while its accommodation has received a four-star Gold AA rating. The restaurant has also been included in the Michelin Guide and has received recognition through the Cumbria Tourism awards.
The restaurant previously received another major Tripadvisor achievement, being named number one in the UK and number 12 in the world for Date Night. The recognition came during the restaurant’s 10th anniversary year, highlighting its growing profile among visitors and diners.
For the Lake District, the latest recognition provides further international exposure for Pooley Bridge and Ullswater as a destination for food and tourism. The village attracts visitors throughout the year, while 1863 combines dining and accommodation in a location close to the lake and the surrounding countryside.
With its combination of local produce, seasonal menus, accommodation and Lake District heritage, 1863 continues to build its reputation beyond Cumbria. Its latest global recognition places the Pooley Bridge restaurant firmly among the destinations attracting attention from diners travelling to the region.
