Barrow Coffee Shop Marks Anniversary Despite Toughest Year.
A popular Barrow coffee shop is celebrating another milestone despite facing what has been described as a particularly difficult year for the business.
Coffee D’Ash, based at 28 Portland Walk, has continued to establish itself as part of Barrow’s growing town-centre community. The independent café has also developed a programme of events alongside its food and drink offering.
The business has become more than simply a place for customers to enjoy coffee. Its Portland Walk premises have hosted community activities and social events, including games nights, quiz events and author gatherings, helping create an additional reason for people to visit the town centre.
Coffee D’Ash was also recognised at the 2026 Barrow Buzz Awards, where it was named runner-up in the Café of the Year category. The awards celebrated businesses and individuals contributing to the town centre, highlighting the role of local independent businesses in Barrow’s commercial community.
The café has also received wider attention since opening in the town centre. In 2025, King Charles III visited Coffee D’Ash during his visit to Barrow-in-Furness, where he met representatives from community organisations supported by the Team Barrow Social Impact Fund.
The business has continued to expand its activities during 2026. Its events programme has included quiz nights and social gatherings, with customers able to enjoy coffee alongside food and other refreshments in a relaxed town-centre setting.
For an independent business operating during a challenging period for the high street, reaching another anniversary represents an important milestone. The café’s continued programme of events and involvement in the wider town-centre community has helped it maintain a visible presence in Barrow.
