Stranger Things creators hope hit Netflix show has ‘great legacy’

Stranger Things creators hope hit Netflix show has ‘great legacy’

The creators of Stranger Things say the heartfelt messages they receive from fans show that the series will leave a “lasting legacy”.
Matt and Ross Duffer, the brothers behind the hit Netflix show, spoke ahead of the highly anticipated fifth and final season, which will be released in three parts starting with volume one on Thursday.
Ross Duffer told the PA news agency that the most meaningful feedback has come from viewers who say the show helped them through difficult times. He said many fans have told them that the series provided comfort during personal struggles, something that resonates deeply with the pair.
He explained that they themselves were “nerdy outsiders” in school and often relied on films and entertainment to get through tough periods. Knowing that Stranger Things has offered similar support to others is, he said, “a great legacy to have”.
The story began with Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown, escaping from a secretive lab and joining a group of friends searching for Will Byers, who vanished into the alternate world known as the Upside Down.
Ahead of the new release, Brown shared a message on Instagram, thanking the Duffer brothers for giving her the role of Eleven when she was just 12. She said the show has meant a great deal to her and praised the creators for taking a chance on her.
Season four ended with Vecna opening a huge rift through Hawkins and leaving Max Mayfield in a coma. In the new season, Vecna has disappeared and the US government has placed the town under military quarantine as it intensifies its search for Eleven.
The returning cast includes Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Natalia Dyer and Maya Hawke.
Since its debut in 2016, Stranger Things has grown into a major franchise, expanding into the stage production Stranger Things: The First Shadow and an upcoming animated series titled Stranger Things: Tales From ’85.
Volume two of the final season will be released on Boxing Day, with the series finale arriving on New Year’s Day.
