Pedestrians Injured After Collision Involving Police Vehicle
Two pedestrians have been injured after a collision involving a police vehicle in a Cumbrian town, prompting an investigation by emergency services.
The incident happened on Senhouse Street in Maryport on Saturday evening, when a police vehicle and two pedestrians both believed to be secondary school-aged children were involved in a road traffic collision.
Emergency services attended the scene, and one of the pedestrians sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where they remain in a critical but stable condition. The second pedestrian suffered minor injuries and has since been discharged.
Cumbria Constabulary confirmed that the police vehicle was not responding to an emergency or involved in a pursuit at the time of the incident. The circumstances surrounding the collision are now being fully investigated.
The case has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as part of standard procedure for incidents involving police vehicles.
Senhouse Street was temporarily closed while investigators examined the scene, and authorities have appealed for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward to assist inquiries.
