Euston Station Descends Into Chaos as Broken Down Trains Trigger ‘Biblical Scenes’
National Rail confirmed that two separate faults occurred on trains between Rugby and Northampton/Milton Keynes Central, grinding services to a halt and leaving thousands stranded. Although engineers have since managed to reopen all lines, the backlog has caused hours of delays and severe congestion.
Inside Euston, travellers found themselves packed shoulder to shoulder as departure boards flickered with cancellations and long queues formed across the concourse. Many passengers took to social media to share images of the chaotic scenes, with some comparing the crowds to “a festival gone wrong” and others describing a “wall of people with nowhere to move.”
West Coast Main Line operators apologised for the disruption, acknowledging that the dual train failures had caused “major knock on delays” across the network.
Despite lines reopening, National Rail warned that services will remain disrupted for the rest of the afternoon as trains and crew attempt to return to their scheduled positions. Passengers are being urged to check live updates before travelling and to allow extra time for their journeys.
For now, Euston remains one of the most severely affected stations in the country, with frustrated travellers still waiting for the chaos to ease.
