Carlisle Man Admits Knife Stabbing After Stealing Blade from Supermarket

A 33 year old Carlisle man has admitted unlawfully wounding another man with a knife he stole earlier in the day from a local supermarket, a court has heard.
Marc Anthony Proudfoot appeared at Carlisle Crown Court after pleading guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of a knife in a public place and theft.
The incident took place on January 4 on Botchergate, where witnesses saw Proudfoot attack a man outside a fast food outlet. The victim suffered a stab wound to his side and was taken to hospital for treatment before later being discharged.
The court heard that Proudfoot had stolen a set of knives and scissors from the Asda store on London Road earlier that day. After the stabbing, he left the scene briefly before returning. Police officers found a knife hidden in his sock when he was arrested.
During a police interview, Proudfoot said, “He forced me to do it. I will admit it. I will do the jail time.”
Proudfoot has been remanded in custody ahead of sentencing, which is due to take place on March 20. The judge told him the offences were serious and that a substantial prison sentence could be expected.
