Barrow man caught driving with 17 times the legal cocaine limit

Barrow man caught driving with 17 times the legal cocaine limit

Jack Cooper, 32, of Barton Street, was due to stand trial at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court. However, on November 18, he pleaded guilty to drug driving and driving without insurance.
Police stopped Cooper on November 25 last year while he was driving his Volkswagen Golf at Newby Bridge, Ulverston. Officers carried out a roadside DrugWipe test, which showed a positive result for cocaine. Further checks also revealed he had no third-party insurance.
The lowest recorded reading was 169 micrograms of cocaine per litre of blood, while the legal limit is just 10 micrograms.
Magistrates fined Cooper £500, banned him from driving for 12 months, and ordered him to pay £620 in court costs along with a £200 victim surcharge.
