At Least 16 Killed in Two Separate Shooting Attacks in Honduras
At least 16 people have been killed in two separate shooting incidents on the Honduran coast, according to police and local officials.
The first attack took place at a ranch in the northern municipality of Trujillo, where armed gunmen opened fire on workers, killing at least 10 people at the scene. Authorities said the area has long been affected by land disputes and organised criminal activity.
In a second incident, gunmen targeted police officers in the Omoa municipality in the Cortés department, near the border with Guatemala. Six officers, including a senior official, were killed while travelling as part of an anti-gang operation.
Security forces said both attacks occurred on the same day and appear to be separate but coordinated acts of violence. Investigations have been launched, and forensic teams have been deployed to both locations.
Officials confirmed that national police and military units have been mobilised in response, as the government seeks to stabilise the affected regions and identify those responsible.
The killings have added to growing concerns about violence linked to organised crime and gang activity in Honduras, which continues to struggle with one of the highest homicide rates in the region.
