Motorcyclist Airlifted to Hospital After Crash Near Sedbergh

25 May 2026 Motorcyclist Airlifted to Hospital After Crash Near Sedbergh

A motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital following a serious crash on the A683 near Sedbergh, prompting emergency road closures and traffic disruption across the area.

Emergency services were called to Straight Bridge, located on the outskirts of Sedbergh, after reports of a collision involving a single motorbike on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred at around 4pm and led police to temporarily close the busy route while rescue and recovery operations took place.

According to reports, the injured rider was treated at the scene before being airlifted by the Great North Air Ambulance to Royal Preston Hospital for further medical care. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the severity of the rider’s injuries.

Motorists were advised to avoid the A683 during the emergency response, with traffic delays reported in surrounding areas as officers managed the road closure. The route was later reopened after the scene was cleared and investigations were completed.

Police have not confirmed whether any other vehicles were involved in the incident, but early reports suggest the crash involved only the motorcycle. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing.

The crash is the latest in a series of road incidents reported across Cumbria in recent weeks, raising continued concerns over safety on rural routes frequently used by motorists and bikers, particularly during busy weekend periods. Authorities continue to urge drivers to remain cautious, follow speed limits, and stay alert on narrow and winding country roads.
