Family Pay Heartfelt Tribute to Dad of Two Killed in A66 Collision Near Keswick
The family of a man who lost his life in a road traffic collision on the A66 near Keswick have paid an emotional tribute to him, describing him as a deeply loved father, partner, and friend whose energy and kindness touched many lives.
The victim, a 45-year-old man from Cockermouth, died following a two-vehicle crash involving a Ford and a Dacia in the early hours of Saturday, June 6, near Thornthwaite. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 1.20am, but he was sadly pronounced dead at the location. The driver of the second vehicle was taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
In a heartfelt statement, his family spoke of his devotion to his children and partner, highlighting his role as a caring father to his two children and a supportive presence within the family. They described him as someone who brought warmth and positivity to those around him, both at home and in his wider community.
The tribute also reflected his passion for the outdoors, particularly fell running, where he was known for his determination, endurance, and love of the Lake District’s rugged landscape. His family said he “came alive on the mountains,” moving across ridges and high ground with confidence and enthusiasm, always meeting challenges with resilience and good humour.
Beyond his love of sport and nature, he was remembered as a creative and practical thinker, someone who enjoyed solving problems and helping others. Friends and colleagues described him as supportive, humorous, and full of ideas, with a personality that made a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Police have confirmed that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing. Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward as inquiries progress.
The family have requested privacy as they come to terms with their loss, while the community has been left mourning the death of a well-respected and much-loved local man.
