A591 Closed Near Kendal Following Serious Crash at Prized
A major section of the A591 near Kendal was closed in both directions on Tuesday morning following a serious crash at Prized, causing heavy traffic delays and disruption for commuters and travellers across the region.
Emergency services, including police, paramedics, and highway response teams, were called to the scene shortly after 7am after reports of a collision on the busy route. Authorities quickly shut the road in both directions to allow emergency crews to deal with the incident safely and begin investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes while recovery operations continued throughout the morning. Long queues were reported on surrounding roads as traffic was diverted away from the closure point near Prized, south of Kendal.
Police have not yet released full details about the number of vehicles involved or whether there were any injuries. However, officials confirmed that emergency teams remained at the location for several hours managing the scene and ensuring public safety.
The A591 is one of Cumbria’s key transport routes, frequently used by local residents, tourists, and commercial vehicles traveling through the Lake District area. Any closure on the road often leads to significant delays across nearby towns and villages.
Motorists were advised to monitor local traffic updates and follow instructions from emergency services while the investigation continues. Authorities are expected to provide further information once the road is deemed safe to reopen.
