One Dead and Five Injured in Suspected Racist Terror Attack Near Paris
A deadly shooting spree in the western suburbs of Paris has left one person dead and five others injured, prompting a terrorism investigation by French authorities.
The attacks took place on Friday, October 23, across Trappes and nearby La Verrière, where a gunman reportedly opened fire on people from a vehicle at several locations.
According to local officials, the shootings occurred at a petrol station, a medical centre and near a playground. A 12-year-old girl was among those injured, and several victims were reported to be in serious condition.
The suspected gunman was arrested following the attacks and taken into police custody. French authorities said the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office had taken over the investigation.
Investigators are examining possible terrorist motives, including whether the victims were targeted because of their race, ethnicity or perceived religious identity.
The suspect was reportedly known to police but was not previously identified as a threat by France’s intelligence services. Authorities are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the shootings.
French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the violence and described the incident as a racist terrorist attack. He expressed solidarity with the victims, their families and the affected communities.
The shootings have raised concerns about racially motivated violence and public safety in the region.
Authorities have urged caution while the investigation continues, as the precise motive behind the attack has not yet been conclusively established.
