Ullock Bridge Road Closure Postponed Until Early Next Year
Planned roadworks at Ullock Bridge in West Cumbria have been postponed, meaning the C2030 will remain open after the council cancelled its scheduled closure.
Cumberland Council had planned to begin the six-week bridge strengthening project on Monday, 2 November. The work was due to involve installing a reinforced concrete saddle to strengthen the structure and extend its working life. However, following discussions with local stakeholders and consideration of other projects taking place nearby, the authority decided to delay the scheme to minimise disruption.
The postponement means the planned road closure will not go ahead on 2 November. The council said the decision was made after taking account of the impact that simultaneous roadworks could have on residents, businesses and people travelling through the area. The authority has apologised for the short-notice change and thanked the local community and road users for their patience.
The bridge strengthening project remains part of Cumberland Council’s highway maintenance programme. The installation of a reinforced concrete saddle is intended to improve the structure’s safety and reliability and help it continue serving the local community for years to come. The work had originally been expected to take around six weeks, subject to weather conditions and operational requirements.
The council now expects the work to be rescheduled for early 2027. A revised start date will be announced once the arrangements have been finalised. Until then, drivers should check the latest roadworks information before travelling, particularly if their journeys regularly use the C2030 around Ullock Bridge.
The project forms part of the authority’s wider £27.3 million investment in maintaining and improving the local highway network.
