Power Cuts Affect Homes In Kendal And Windermere Following Storm Disruption

01 Nov 2026 Power Cuts Affect Homes In Kendal And Windermere Following Storm Disruption

Households in Kendal and Windermere were affected by power cuts following severe weather across Cumbria, with electricity engineers working to restore supplies to affected properties.

The outages were reported on Saturday, 31 October, as Storm Boelo continued to cause disruption across the county. Electricity North West was responding to faults affecting homes in the two towns, with restoration estimates varying according to the location and extent of the damage. Some affected properties were expected to have their electricity restored during the morning, while other restoration times remained under review.

The disruption formed part of wider problems experienced across Cumbria during the storm. Cumbria Constabulary reported that just under 10,000 properties across the county had experienced power outages overnight. Electricity North West was working alongside emergency services and other partner organisations to coordinate the response and restore electricity supplies as safely and quickly as possible.

Strong winds also caused problems on roads, with fallen trees and debris reported in several parts of the county. Although many affected routes had been cleared, police continued to receive reports of further obstructions. Motorists were advised to travel only when necessary, allow additional time for journeys and take particular care on exposed roads and rural routes where conditions could change quickly.

Residents experiencing power cuts were advised to contact Electricity North West by calling 105, a free service available around the clock. The electricity network operator also provides information about reported faults, estimated restoration times and support arrangements for customers affected by prolonged outages. People were encouraged to check official updates rather than rely on unverified reports circulating online.

Police also urged residents to check on elderly neighbours, vulnerable people and anyone who might need additional assistance while electricity supplies remained disrupted. Households relying on electrically powered medical equipment or other essential services were particularly encouraged to seek support. Electricity North West and partner agencies were making welfare assistance available in affected areas to help residents dealing with extended outages.

The storm response remained ongoing as strong winds continued to affect parts of Cumbria. Residents were advised to monitor weather forecasts, follow updates from the electricity network operator and avoid approaching fallen power lines or damaged electrical equipment. Anyone who encounters a fallen tree on a main road should contact National Highways, while obstructions on minor roads should be reported to the relevant local council.
