B5307 Near Carlisle Faces Up to 15 Days of Road Closures
A road near Carlisle is set to close for up to 15 days as Cumberland Council carries out resurfacing work on the B5307 at Moorhouse.
The work is scheduled to begin on Monday, 2 November 2026, subject to weather conditions and the state of the site. The project will involve resurfacing sections of the carriageway, with a road closure required to allow the work to be completed. A signed diversion route will be provided for motorists while the restrictions remain in place.
The resurfacing scheme will be delivered in two phases, covering separate sections of the B5307. The first phase will extend from Meeting House to Monkhill Road, while the second will continue from Monkhill Road to Langwath Cottage. The phased approach will allow the council’s programme to progress along the affected stretch of road, although drivers should expect access restrictions to vary according to the location of the work.
Working hours are expected to run from 8am to 5pm each day. The overall programme could last up to 15 days, depending on progress and conditions on site. The published schedule does not guarantee that every section will reopen at a particular time, so motorists should allow additional time for their journeys and follow the temporary road signs.
A signed diversion will direct traffic away from the closed section while resurfacing takes place. Drivers who regularly use the B5307 through Moorhouse may need to adjust their usual routes, particularly during weekday working hours. The precise impact will depend on the section being worked on and the direction of travel, with delays possible as traffic follows the alternative route.
Cumberland Council has confirmed that access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles throughout the closure. Pedestrians and cyclists who dismount will also be able to pass through the affected area. These arrangements are intended to preserve essential access while allowing the resurfacing work to proceed safely.
Normal vehicle access within the closure will generally not be possible during the works. However, residents who need to reach properties within the restricted section are being advised to speak directly to site staff. Requests will be accommodated where it is safe and practical to do so, although access cannot be guaranteed in every circumstance.
The council has also warned that delays may occur depending on where work is taking place. Repeated vehicle movements through the construction site will not be possible during working hours, meaning residents and other road users should not assume they will be able to drive through the area whenever required. The restrictions are intended to provide a safe working environment for those carrying out the resurfacing.
The B5307 serves local communities and properties in the area around Moorhouse, making the planned works relevant to residents and people travelling through the surrounding countryside. Drivers making regular journeys should pay attention to the temporary signs and diversion instructions, particularly if their trips involve accessing properties along the affected road.
The scheme is part of the council’s highway maintenance programme, with resurfacing intended to improve the road surface along the specified sections. The final duration will depend on weather and site conditions, which can affect progress on outdoor roadworks. The current programme allows for up to 15 days, but no more specific completion date has been confirmed.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead before travelling through Moorhouse from 2 November. Residents who require access during the closure should discuss their needs with site staff, while pedestrians and cyclists should follow any instructions provided at the works. Drivers should also remain alert to changing traffic arrangements as the project moves between its two phases.
