Planning Applications Across Cumbria Include Home Extensions, Tree Works And New Developments

02 Nov 2026 Planning Applications Across Cumbria Include Home Extensions, Tree Works And New Developments

A fresh round of planning applications across Cumbria includes proposals for property alterations, infrastructure works, agricultural buildings and tree management in towns and villages.

In the Cumberland Council area, recent submissions include roofing work at Syke Head near Hethersgill, a light pole on Ellers Mill Lane near Dalston and tree works in Brampton. Applications also relate to the ongoing Hadrian’s Camp development at Houghton, near Carlisle, including requests to approve details covering construction traffic management and public carriageway arrangements.

Barrow-in-Furness has received an application concerning boundary treatment at the former Spirit Energy gas condensate storage site on St Andrews Street, linked to demolition and engineering works. A separate submission proposes tree maintenance at Croft Park Grove, including canopy reductions and branch removal from several protected trees. These applications cover different types of work, from changes to an industrial site to the management of established trees in residential areas.

In the Westmorland and Furness area, proposals include replacement roofing at Canal Head Depot in Kendal and a new dairy cattle building with associated concrete hard standings at Green Lane End Farm, Lupton. Other applications seek to divide commercial premises in Kendal into three units instead of two, alongside a change of use and new roller shutter doors. Replacement windows at a property on Parr Street are also included in the latest submissions.

Further applications in the Copeland area include a field access track at the former Station Yard in Moor Row, a single-storey rear kitchen extension in Millom and the conversion of a detached barn into a studio in Frizington. Proposals for a garage and storage shed in Whitehaven also feature in the list, alongside two micro battery storage schemes at Hensingham Day Centre and near Barfs Road and the A595 in Distington.

Other submissions include fibre optic infrastructure upgrades at Port Haverigg Holiday Village and the proposed felling of a mature protected beech tree at The Lodge in Beckermet. The applications reflect the varied nature of planning activity across the county, with proposals ranging from household improvements and agricultural facilities to commercial changes and infrastructure projects.

Planning applications are proposals rather than final decisions, and their progress will depend on the relevant council’s assessment and any necessary consultations. Residents can check application documents, follow updates and submit comments through the relevant local authority’s planning service. Cumberland Council provides an online search facility for applications and appeals, while Westmorland and Furness Council publishes planning information through its own website.
