Teen Barrow AFC Supporter Handed Three-Year Football Ban After Matchday Violence

17 Oct 2026 Teen Barrow AFC Supporter Handed Three-Year Football Ban After Matchday Violence

An 18-year-old football supporter has been handed a three-year banning order following violent scenes before a Barrow AFC match.

Tyler Scott, of Beckside, Pennington, appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court, where he was sentenced after pleading guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of, or provoke, unlawful violence.

The incident happened on Saturday, August 15, ahead of Barrow AFC’s National League fixture against Hornchurch FC.

The court heard that visiting Hornchurch supporters were walking from Barrow railway station towards Abbey Road when they encountered a group of Barrow supporters.

CCTV footage shown in court captured a confrontation developing into violence, with Scott seen throwing kicks and punches. Prosecutors described his conduct as “absolutely disgraceful behaviour”.

Scott’s defence told the court that he accepted responsibility for his actions and acknowledged that a football banning order was appropriate.

Magistrates imposed a high-level community order requiring Scott to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and comply with probation requirements. He was also given an eight-week overnight curfew between 6pm and 6am.

In addition, Scott was issued with a three-year football banning order, preventing him from attending matches covered by the order.

The court was told that the incident lasted less than a minute, although the violence was described as sustained during that period.

Magistrates strongly criticised Scott’s behaviour and urged him to take responsibility for his actions and consider the impact they had on those around him.
