Nine Day Bath Street Closure Planned in Barrow-in-Furness

28 Oct 2026 Nine Day Bath Street Closure Planned in Barrow-in-Furness

A section of Bath Street in Barrow-in-Furness is scheduled to close for nine days in November to allow essential utility works to be carried out.

The temporary traffic restriction is due to come into effect on 9 November 2026 and is expected to remain in place until 17 November. Westmorland and Furness Council has published a formal notice confirming the planned closure, which will affect a section of the road close to its junction with Anson Street. The restriction is intended to provide a safe working area while the utility work is completed.

The affected stretch extends approximately 30 metres south-eastwards from the junction with Anson Street. The council's notice states that the restriction will apply to all traffic, including vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. People who regularly use this part of Bath Street should therefore prepare for the possibility of disruption and follow the temporary signs directing them away from the work area.

A signed diversion route will be provided using Anson Street, Keyes Street, Parry Street and the unrestricted section of Bath Street. Road users are advised to follow the diversion signs and allow additional time for journeys where necessary. Pedestrians and cyclists will also need to observe the restrictions and use the designated alternative route while the affected section remains closed.

The council has stated that although the temporary order can legally remain in force for up to 18 months, the restriction is expected to be needed for only nine days. The closure will apply when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed, allowing the restrictions to be implemented as required for the works. The published notice is dated 23 October 2026 and identifies the project under reference TTROW/19974.

Residents and road users seeking further information about the planned works can contact the Westmorland and Furness Council Highways Hotline on 0300 373 3306 or consult the council's website. Anyone travelling through the area during the closure period should check the temporary traffic arrangements and follow instructions displayed at the site.
