Kendal Goldsmiths To Close After 37 Years As Owner Pursues Pilot’s Licence
A long-established family-run jeweller in Kendal is preparing to close after 37 years, with its owner retiring to pursue a lifelong ambition.
Andrew Dawson opened Kendal Goldsmiths on Highgate in 1989, at premises where jewellery businesses have operated since the late 1930s. What began as a smaller shop specialising in diamond and precious-stone jewellery gradually expanded into the neighbouring building as the business attracted customers from across South Cumbria.
Now aged 65, Mr Dawson has decided the time is right to step away from the business and focus on retirement. He hopes to gain his pilot’s licence, fulfilling an ambition he has held for many years.
The closing-down sale is scheduled to begin at 10am on Saturday, 7 November. Mr Dawson’s team will remain with him throughout the sale, giving customers an opportunity to visit the shop before it closes.
Reflecting on the business’s journey, Mr Dawson said he had enjoyed the past 37 years and was grateful for the loyalty of customers and the support of his staff. He also described it as a privilege to be part of customers’ lives and special occasions, while working alongside other businesses in Kendal.
Mr Dawson thanked everyone who had supported Kendal Goldsmiths over the years and said he hoped to welcome as many customers as possible during the closing-down sale. The closure marks the end of a long-running local jewellery business, while its owner prepares for a very different chapter.
