Five Flood Alerts Issued in South Cumbria

27 Oct 2026 Five Flood Alerts Issued in South Cumbria

Residents across South Cumbria have been warned about possible flooding after five flood alerts were issued amid unsettled weather conditions.

The alerts followed periods of heavy rain associated with Storm Boelo, which brought challenging weather to Cumbria and other parts of the North West.

Flood alerts mean flooding is possible, particularly in low-lying areas, on roads and along riverside or coastal paths. While an alert does not necessarily mean homes will flood, residents are being encouraged to monitor local conditions and follow official advice.

Heavy rainfall can cause river levels to rise quickly, increasing the likelihood of flooding in vulnerable locations. Coastal areas may also be affected by high tides and unsettled sea conditions.

Authorities have urged people to take extra care around rivers, streams and other watercourses. Footpaths and roads close to water may become hazardous, even where flooding appears limited.

Motorists are advised not to drive through floodwater, as its depth and the condition of the road beneath it can be difficult to judge.

People living in areas covered by flood alerts are encouraged to keep up to date with Environment Agency information and prepare for changing conditions.

Residents should avoid walking or driving through floodwater and stay away from swollen rivers and flooded pathways. Anyone who notices dangerous conditions should report them to the relevant authorities.

The latest alerts highlight the risk that prolonged rainfall and stormy weather can pose to communities across Cumbria.

Residents are being urged to remain vigilant while authorities continue to monitor river levels and local flood risks.
