Family Pay Tribute To Lancaster Man Killed In A6 Collision
The family of an 88-year-old Lancaster man who died following a collision on the A6 have paid tribute to him, remembering his life and family.
Alan Williamson died at the scene after a collision involving a blue Vauxhall Agila and a white Peugeot Partner van on Scotforth Road, near the entrance to Lancaster University. Emergency services were called at 7.47pm on Saturday, 31 October. Mr Williamson was a passenger in the Vauxhall and suffered serious injuries.
In a family statement, relatives said Mr Williamson was born in Lancaster in 1938 and grew up in the city with his two brothers, Dennis and Geoff. He later married his wife Jean, and they had two children, Peter and Karen. His family described him as a devoted family man who would be greatly missed by those who knew him.
During his working life, Mr Williamson was employed at Heysham Power Station, Storeys and Standfast. Outside work, he enjoyed spending time with a pint, playing snooker and birdwatching. He also loved walking, particularly during his younger years with his late wife Jean.
The driver of the Vauxhall, a man in his 60s from Lancaster, sustained serious injuries and remains in a critical condition in hospital, according to reports. Another passenger in the vehicle, a woman in her 60s, suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the Peugeot van, a man in his 20s from Galgate, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. He has since been released under investigation. Lancashire Police are appealing for witnesses, dashcam footage and information about the van’s movements before the collision. Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting log 1364 of 31 October.
