Dispersal Order Issued In Workington Town Centre Following Anti-Social Behaviour

02 Nov 2026 Dispersal Order Issued In Workington Town Centre Following Anti-Social Behaviour

A temporary dispersal order was introduced in Workington town centre following several incidents of anti-social behaviour involving young people over the weekend.

Cumbria Police confirmed the order would remain in force until 4am on Monday, 2 November. During that period, officers had powers to direct anyone behaving anti-socially to leave the town centre. The measure was intended to help address the reported incidents and prevent further disruption in the area.

Police also appealed to parents and guardians to speak with their children about responsible behaviour. The reminder followed concerns about incidents involving young people in the town centre, with officers encouraging families to take an active interest in where their children were and how they were behaving.

The latest order comes amid an ongoing focus on youth-related anti-social behaviour in Workington. Cumbria Police has identified the town centre as a neighbourhood policing priority, with officers reporting high-visibility patrols, engagement with local businesses and the use of dispersal powers during periods of increased disorder.

Dispersal powers allow police to direct individuals to leave a designated area when their behaviour is causing, or is likely to cause, anti-social behaviour or disorder. The rules can also prevent a person from returning for a specified period. Anyone who fails to comply with a lawful direction may face further police action.
