Coniston Youth Hostel Sold For £895,000 After Being Put On The Market
A 55-bed youth hostel in Coniston has been sold for £895,000, marking a change of ownership for a well-established accommodation property in the Lake District.
Known as YHA Holly How, the property is a Victorian country house set in approximately 2.1 acres at the foot of the Coniston Fells. It is located close to Coniston village and Coniston Water, making it a base for visitors exploring the area's walking, cycling and outdoor activity routes.
The property was marketed as a freehold business, with the asking price of £895,000 including goodwill, fixtures and fittings. The sale listing described it as an operational hostel within the Youth Hostels Association network, with accommodation for up to 55 guests.
Facilities included communal lounge and dining areas, a self-catering kitchen, a commercial kitchen and a bar and restaurant space. The site also included Holly How House, a separate six-bedroom property used partly for guest accommodation and staff housing.
The property was offered without restrictions on future use, although the seller expressed a preference for a buyer interested in continuing the business as a YHA partner hostel. Other proposals were also open for consideration, subject to the relevant requirements and permissions.
The sale adds to changes in the Lake District's hostel accommodation market, as properties in popular visitor destinations attract interest from potential hospitality operators and investors.
