16 Year Old Girl Appears in Court After Carlisle Stabbing

31 Oct 2026 16 Year Old Girl Appears in Court After Carlisle Stabbing

A 16-year-old girl has appeared before magistrates after an 18-year-old man was found with multiple injuries following an alleged stabbing in Carlisle.

Carlisle Magistrates’ Court heard on Friday, 30 October, that police had received reports shortly before 10pm on Wednesday, 28 October, after members of the public raised concerns about an incident in the city.

One caller reportedly told police they had encountered a girl carrying a large knife near Melbourne Park in the Botcherby area. Officers subsequently attended an address on Botcherby Avenue, where they found the injured 18-year-old man.

The man was taken to Cumberland Infirmary for medical treatment. Prosecutor Peter Kelly told the court that the injuries were not considered life-threatening and that the man was awaiting surgery to close several open wounds.

The teenager faces two charges: wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article in a public place. The second allegation relates to a kitchen knife reportedly carried on Greystone Road.

No pleas were entered during the magistrates’ hearing. The proceedings focused on transferring the case to the youth court and determining arrangements for the teenager while the legal process continues.

Magistrates remitted the case to Carlisle Youth Court, where the girl is due to appear on Friday, 6 November. She was granted conditional bail and placed in local authority care, with a condition prohibiting any contact with the injured man.

The teenager cannot be identified because of her age. The allegations have not been proven, and the case will proceed through the youth justice system.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Information can be provided to Cumbria Police by calling 101 or through its official website, quoting incident number 266 of 28 October 2026. Anonymous information can also be passed to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
