Festive Events Planned In Barrow, Keswick And Across The County
Christmas markets and festive celebrations are set to bring seasonal attractions to towns and villages across Cumbria, with events planned throughout November and December 2026, including Barrow-in-Furness and Keswick.
Barrow-in-Furness is preparing a programme of Christmas entertainment in its town centre, with a Christmas market scheduled for Saturday, 12 December. Organised through Barrow Business Improvement District, the event is expected to feature stalls selling gifts and seasonal food, alongside stage entertainment and live music. Other activities planned for the town include festive transport, family entertainment and opportunities for residents to enjoy Christmas shopping while supporting local businesses.
The festive calendar will begin with Holker Winter Market at Holker Hall and Gardens in Cark-in-Cartmel, running from 6 to 8 November. The three-day event will bring together local makers, food producers and street-food traders, with outdoor bars and live music adding to the atmosphere. Coniston will also host its Festive Fayre on 14 November, offering visitors an opportunity to browse locally produced gifts and seasonal items.
Further events are planned towards the end of November, including the Rydal Hall Christmas Craft Fair on 21 and 22 November, followed by Ulverston's popular Dickensian Christmas Festival on 28 and 29 November. Ulverston's historic streets will provide the setting for costumed characters, street performances, Christmas entertainment and a traditional parade. Workington will also hold its Christmas lights switch-on and market on 28 November, with stalls, live music and food and drink available for visitors.
December will bring further opportunities for festive shopping and family outings. Beetham Nurseries will host its Christmas Market from 3 to 6 December, while Hawkshead Christmas Fair is scheduled for 5 and 6 December. Cockermouth will also welcome the Taste Cumbria Christmas festival on the same weekend, featuring food producers, seasonal products and market stalls. Both events are expected to attract visitors looking for locally produced gifts and festive refreshments.
Keswick's Victorian Fayre is scheduled for Sunday, 6 December, with the town's Market Square and Packhorse Court providing the main locations for the celebrations. The free event is expected to include Christmas stalls, family entertainment and a funfair for children, alongside activities across the town centre. Entertainment will take place throughout the day, although the full programme of performers and timings has yet to be announced.
With events taking place across the county, residents and visitors will have several opportunities to enjoy the festive season while supporting independent traders, local producers and community organisations. Organisers are expected to publish further information about individual programmes, access arrangements and ticketing as the dates approach. Visitors are advised to check the relevant event organisers' announcements before travelling, as schedules and arrangements may change.
