Cloudy Start To November Before Sunshine Returns Across Cumbria
Cloudy skies and occasional showers are marking the start of November across Cumbria, but brighter and drier conditions are expected to follow.
Sunday is forecast to remain largely overcast, with daytime temperatures reaching between 9°C and 13°C across the county. The highest chance of showers is expected in eastern and inland areas, including Alston, Penrith and Sedbergh, while coastal communities in West Cumbria are likely to experience a lower risk of rain.
Conditions are expected to change overnight as cloud clears across much of the county. The resulting drop in temperature could bring a chilly start to Monday, with some sheltered inland locations forecast to reach around freezing. Appleby, Brampton and Cockermouth are among the places where temperatures could fall to 0°C, while coastal areas such as Barrow and Ulverston are expected to remain milder.
The outlook for Tuesday is slightly cloudier, with much of the county expected to remain dry. Sunny intervals may still develop in some areas, while daytime temperatures are likely to remain between 9°C and 12°C. Overnight temperatures are forecast to stay above freezing in most locations, although the weather may feel chilly, particularly in exposed and rural areas.
Brighter conditions are then expected to return widely on Wednesday and Thursday. Forecasts indicate a largely settled period, with sunshine or sunny intervals across much of Cumbria and daytime temperatures generally reaching 9°C to 12°C. Some eastern and inland locations may see more cloud at times, but widespread rainfall is not expected to dominate the outlook.
The developing high-pressure weather pattern is expected to keep conditions largely settled during the first part of November. Residents and visitors can expect a mix of crisp mornings, cool afternoons and brighter spells, although local variations in cloud and temperature will continue. Anyone travelling early in the day should be prepared for colder conditions in rural areas, particularly where temperatures fall close to freezing.
