Storm Boelo: Thousands of Homes Remain Without Power Across Cumbria and Lancashire

27 Oct 2026 Storm Boelo: Thousands of Homes Remain Without Power Across Cumbria and Lancashire

Thousands of households across Cumbria and Lancashire are continuing to face power cuts after Storm Boelo caused widespread damage to electricity networks.

Electricity North West reported that its engineers had restored power to more than 80,000 properties affected by the storm, while around 4,500 homes and businesses remained without electricity, according to an update published on October 26.

Strong winds and heavy rainfall brought down trees and branches, damaged overhead power lines and created difficult conditions for repair teams. The disruption has affected communities across the region, with Cumbria among the areas experiencing significant problems.

Repair teams have been working to reconnect affected properties as quickly and safely as possible. In some areas, engineers have used remote switching to restore electricity without needing immediate physical repairs.

However, around 100 locations still required engineers to carry out repairs on site. Fallen trees, flooding and debris have also made it harder for teams to reach some damaged infrastructure.

As weather conditions began to improve, overhead line engineers were able to resume work at height. Electricity North West said it expected to make further progress, although full restoration was scheduled for 6pm on Tuesday, October 27.

Storm Boelo has caused disruption beyond electricity supplies, with strong winds and heavy rain affecting transport and outdoor events across the North West.

The latest developments highlight the challenges facing repair crews as they work to restore essential services following severe weather.
