Storm Boelo Leaves Nearly 10,000 Cumbria Homes Without Power Overnight

26 Oct 2026 Storm Boelo Leaves Nearly 10,000 Cumbria Homes Without Power Overnight

Nearly 10,000 properties across Cumbria experienced power cuts overnight as Storm Boelo brought strong winds and severe weather to the region.

Electricity North West engineers have been working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible after the storm damaged overhead power lines. Fallen trees and flying debris have contributed to widespread disruption across the county.

Cumbria Police is coordinating its response with partner agencies, including electricity network teams, to support affected communities and help restore essential services.

The storm has also caused significant travel disruption, with fallen trees and debris blocking several roads. Although many affected routes have been cleared, further hazards remain possible, particularly on rural roads and exposed routes.

Residents experiencing prolonged power cuts may be able to access welfare assistance, particularly those who are vulnerable or require additional support.

Police have encouraged people to check on elderly and vulnerable neighbours, friends and relatives to ensure they have access to essential supplies, food and medication.

Motorists have been advised to travel only when necessary, allow extra time for journeys and adjust their driving to suit changing conditions. Residents are also being urged to stay informed through official weather and power-cut updates while recovery work continues.

Although efforts are under way to restore electricity and clear remaining hazards, authorities warn that continued strong winds could create further problems across Cumbria.

Residents affected by power cuts can contact Electricity North West on 105 for assistance and the latest information.
