Russia Detains Teenager Over Alleged Moscow Terror Plot After US Intelligence Warning

02 Nov 2026 Russia Detains Teenager Over Alleged Moscow Terror Plot After US Intelligence Warning

Russian authorities have detained a teenager suspected of planning a terrorist attack at a major Moscow attraction after receiving a warning from the United States.

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said the suspect, a Russian citizen who is a minor, was detained following information shared by US officials through established security channels. The arrest came after the US Embassy in Moscow issued an alert on Saturday, 31 October, warning of a credible threat of a mass-casualty event at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve in southern Moscow.

According to the FSB, the teenager had posted photographs on TikTok showing himself wearing tactical clothing and a balaclava while holding an object resembling an automatic weapon. Other images reportedly showed the suspect at the museum and park complex, accompanied by the caption, “I found a place”. Russian investigators said searches of the teenager’s home uncovered clothing and accessories similar to those shown in the photographs.

The security agency also claimed that investigators found searches on the teenager’s phone relating to previous terrorist attacks, mass killings and other violent incidents. The FSB said the suspect had subscribed to a neo-Nazi channel on Telegram. The information has been reported by Russian news agencies citing the security service, and the allegations have not been independently established in court.

The US Embassy had advised American citizens to avoid the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve, remain alert and stay away from crowds. The complex, which includes an historic palace and extensive parkland, is a popular visitor destination in the Russian capital. The site was temporarily closed following the warning, while security measures were put in place around the grounds.

The FSB publicly thanked the United States for providing the information, while Russia’s Investigative Committee considers what legal action should follow. The exchange is notable because relations between Washington and Moscow remain strained over Russia’s war in Ukraine. Despite wider political tensions, the two countries have continued to share information about specific security threats.

The incident has also recalled the March 2024 warning issued by the US Embassy about possible extremist attacks targeting large gatherings in Moscow. Days later, gunmen attacked the Crocus City Hall concert venue near the capital, killing more than 140 people. Islamic State claimed responsibility for that attack. The latest case has renewed attention on intelligence-sharing between the two countries and the importance of responding to credible security warnings.
