Cumbria Man Jailed After Smearing Human Waste Across Kendal Police Station Cell
A Cumbria man has been jailed after a shocking incident inside Kendal Police Station where he smeared human waste across a police custody cell.
The court heard that the defendant caused serious disruption while being held in custody, leaving officers and staff to deal with what prosecutors described as an appalling scene inside the detention area.
According to reports presented during the hearing, the man defecated in the cell before spreading the waste across walls and surfaces. Police staff were later forced to carry out a specialist clean up operation following the incident.
Magistrates were told the behaviour created both hygiene and safety concerns inside the station. The clean up operation also resulted in additional costs and disruption for police resources already under pressure.
During sentencing, the court strongly criticised the man’s conduct, describing it as deeply offensive and completely unacceptable. Officials stated that emergency service workers should not be subjected to abusive or degrading behaviour while performing their duties.
The defendant was ultimately handed a custodial sentence, with the judge warning that repeated disorderly conduct and criminal damage inside public facilities would continue to be punished severely.
Police and court officials say incidents involving violence, vandalism, or contamination inside custody suites are treated seriously because they pose potential risks to staff, detainees, and public health.
The case has attracted significant local attention because of the disturbing nature of the offence, with many residents expressing anger over the misuse of police resources. Authorities hope the sentence sends a strong message that destructive behaviour inside police stations will not be tolerated.
