Countdown Begins For Cumbria’s First Gingerbread House Festival
Bakers across Cumbria are being encouraged to enter a new Gingerbread House Festival celebrating creativity, craftsmanship and edible festive designs.
The event will take place at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa over the weekend of 20–22 November 2026. Organised by English Lakes Hotels and Grasmere Gingerbread, the festival will bring together competitors from across the country to showcase imaginative gingerbread house creations.
Endorsed by Cumbria Tourism, the competition is open to bakers of all abilities, providing an opportunity for individuals and groups to display their skills. A range of categories will accommodate different ages and backgrounds, including adults, children, under-11s, under-18s and seniors.
Businesses, community groups and professional culinary teams will also be able to take part, making the festival an opportunity for both experienced confectioners and enthusiastic newcomers to demonstrate their creativity.
To launch the event, Low Wood Bay pastry chef Jibin Thomas has created a miniature gingerbread replica of the resort, offering an early example of the craftsmanship and imagination visitors can expect to see.
