Lake District Spa to Expand with New Pools and Scenic Sauna from January

24 Oct 2026 Lake District Spa to Expand with New Pools and Scenic Sauna from January

A popular Lake District spa is preparing to expand its facilities with new pools, a scenic sauna and additional spaces for relaxation, with work scheduled to begin in January 2027.

The Falls Spa at Lodore Falls Hotel, near Keswick, has secured approval for the development, which aims to enhance its existing wellness facilities and make greater use of its picturesque setting overlooking Derwentwater and the surrounding fells.

The expansion will introduce several new features, including a heated aromatherapy pool on a fellside terrace, a thermal spa garden, a heated relaxation pool, a cold plunge pool and outdoor heated loungers. A new scenic sauna and poolside lounge are also planned.

The design will incorporate local stone and timber finishes to complement the surrounding Borrowdale Valley landscape. The new facilities are intended to build on the spa's existing thermal experiences and hydrotherapy offerings.

The spa first opened in November 2018 as part of a wider £10 million investment in the hotel. Since then, it has become a key attraction for visitors seeking luxury wellness experiences in the Lake District.

The expansion comes after The Falls Spa received Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice recognition for the second consecutive year in 2026, placing it among the platform’s highly rated attractions worldwide.

Despite the construction work, the spa is expected to remain open throughout most of the development. The hotel says it will take steps to minimise disruption, although some areas may be temporarily affected as work progresses.

To mark the expansion, the business has also announced promotional offers for spa visits and accommodation during the construction period.

The project is expected to strengthen the hotel’s position as a destination for relaxation and luxury tourism, adding more ways for guests to enjoy the Lake District’s natural surroundings.
